Changes to Public Service Loan Forgiveness - What you need to know now!
November 17
3-4pm
Additional information about PSLF Limited Waiver:
Are you a public service employee with federal student loan debt? If so, you may be eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF). Although it has been notoriously difficult to obtain forgiveness under the PSLF Program, the U.S. Department of Education recently announced a time-limited waiver opportunity that relaxes many of the PSLF Program’s requirements and enables borrowers to receive credit for past payments that would not otherwise count towards PSLF.
Under the time-limited waiver opportunity, payments will count as qualifying PSLF payments regardless of loan type, repayment plan, or whether they were made in full or on time. All you need is qualifying employment after October 1, 2007—the start date of the PSLF Program.
Even if you have not yet completed ten years of public service, or made ten years of payments, you can receive a review and potential revision of your qualifying payment count under the relaxed requirements of the time-limited waiver opportunity. However, you may need to take steps by October 31, 2022 to secure a review.
In this program, experts in student loans, Arwen Thoman, the newly appointed state Student Loan Ombudsman, and Ashley Norwood-Struppa, Regional Director of AccessLex Center for Education and Financial Capability, will answer questions and provide the information you need to know about the PSLF time-limited waiver opportunity and the actions you must take by October 31, 2022 to secure a comprehensive review.
