National Lawyer Burnout Survey

The Institute for Well-Being in Law (IWIL), Well-Being Week in Law (WWIL), and Claremont Graduate University are conducting an anonymous survey of burnout and factors that contribute to it in the legal profession—for lawyers and staff in all types of work environments, such as law firms, corporate legal departments, and public interest organizations.

Although there have been a number of mental health-related surveys of lawyers, we could locate no study  seeking to determine the frequency of burnout and contributing factors among lawyers or their support staff. We plan to report our findings during Well-Being Week in Law. Results could help legal employers identify factors to address to curb the risk of burnout and help IWIL plan useful programming for the profession.
