This program is hosted by the SJC Committee on Lawyer Well-Being, the New England Chapter of the Mindfulness in Law Society (MILS), and Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers for this program on Parenting in Unprecedented Times.

“Parenting is one of the most challenging, demanding and stressful undertakings on the planet. It is also one of the most important” writes Jon Kabat Zinn, founder of the Center for Mindfulness at UMass Medical School and author of Everyday Blessings: The Inner Work of Mindful Parenting. And this statement doesn't even take into account parenting during a pandemic and at a time of intense social, racial, and political unrest, with major shifts in the way we work and our children go to school.

Given the challenges parents in the legal profession are facing, we thought it made sense to create a space to bring people together to talk about how we might better support you and perhaps find ways that we can all support each other. On February 23, we have scheduled a time for those interested in talking further about this to come together for an hour. Some of that time will be spent hearing from each other on what is working and what is not working and brainstorming creative strategies for sustaining ourselves during this time. We will be joined by a few lawyer parents who are using mindfulness practices as a way to cultivate more ease and less stress in parenting, including: Amy Pruett (Williams Mullens) Bernardo Cuadra (Mass AGO), and Tracey Meyers (LCL). In addition, Brenda Fingold, a certified mindfulness teacher, parent and former lawyer, will provide some simple mindfulness tools and strategies for working parents.
